Benefits of Membership in the Port St. Lucie Orchid Society
Our Society is a growing, dynamic and exciting organization. We have many opportunities available for orchid lovers at all levels of knowledge, from those who are dealing with their first plant to serious, experienced growers and hybridizers.
We believe that we should “pay it forward”, taking what has been taught to us and sharing that expertise and our knowledge with others. To that end, we’d like to inform you of some of the resources available to all of our members.
There is something to be learned at every meeting. We book knowledgeable, entertaining, professional speakers. We also have periodic clinics. And don’t forget Show and Tell, during which our members bring in their orchids and talk about how they grow them. Before meetings, at noon, there is a workshop especially designed for beginners and people who wish to brush up on their skills. All are welcome, and there is no cost.
You can take advantage of our Library, checking out books, DVDs and other material, from simple to detailed. You will be receiving a monthly newsletter, “Orchidelirium”. In it you will find a culture column, postings about upcoming orchid events and much more. And make it a point to visit our web site, www.pslos.org. Additionally, our Webmaster, Patrick McClintock, has set up a Facebook group for us. Consider joining it, if only to see the fabulous orchids pictured there.
We take periodic group trips to orchid events; joining us will give you an opportunity to see orchid nurseries and vendors that you might otherwise not experience. And, you are always free to ask any questions that you may have. Someone will have an answer for you.
Finally, we hold a large orchid show in March. There are many ways to get involved in it, and doing so is an incredibly rewarding experience. Committee chairs are chosen from the membership, and one can volunteer at the highest or lowest level. It’s a great way to learn, and so much fun!
