Port Saint Lucie Orchid Society

Upcoming Events:

As part of our reciprocal participation with other orchid
societies in the area, we will be installing a table top display
at the Martin County Orchid Society Show.
We need your help, and especially your plants! Please consider
loaning a flowering orchid for this effort. And by all means,

come out and help with the installation. You don’t need to
know a thing, and you’ll have fun and learn.
Set up is March 1st at 10AM at the Martin County
Fairgrounds on Dixie Highway in Stuart.
Let us know in advance what you plan to bring, so we can
preregister the plants.

Contact Hellen or Diana for more info and to volunteer!

Mark your calendars, the show is coming.

About Us:

The Port St. Lucie Orchid Society was formed in 1982 by a group of orchid enthusiasts who wanted to learn more about their passion, the culture of orchids.

Since that time, the Society has become a vibrant, dynamic organization dedicated to education, good growing practices and camaraderie in our local orchid community. Our membership is approximately 150, which makes ours one of the largest orchid societies in Florida. We are a 501c3 corporation, and regularly contribute to the community.

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in orchids, regardless of an individual's level of expertise. We believe that we should "pay it forward", taking what has been taught to us and sharing our knowledge with others, both within the Society and with the general public. One of our current projects is an orchid space at the new Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, where we have installed and maintain many varieties of orchids to be seen by visitors to the Gardens.

We meet monthly except during July and August. Our meetings are venues for information sharing and interaction with professional growers and speakers.

The Society maintains a well stocked library. Members may check out books, DVDs, periodicals and other materials, from basic to scientific, at no cost. We publish a monthly newsletter, "Orchidelirium". You can access past and current issues on this web site - just click on the Library.
The Society sponsors periodic bus trips to special events. At minimal cost, members and non-members can experience orchid nurseries and gardens that they might otherwise never see.
When an individual joins the Society, an existing member becomes a liaison, helping with Society procedures and answering questions. Our members freely share their knowledge with ancillary groups and the public. We regularly speak at meetings of local garden clubs. We do not accept honoraria for these services. We see them as part of our mission to educate others about orchid culture and origins.

Once annually, the Society produces a large orchid show. This show is sanctioned and judged by the American Orchid Society, and takes the better part of the preceding year to plan and dozens of members to execute. Other local societies are invited to install one hundred square foot floor displays, an endeavor that takes a full day to accomplish. Our members and others with an interest also create displays of various sizes. Members of the public with no connection to the Society may (and do) bring plants to be registered for judging and possible AOS awards.

Vendors who participate in this annual show install displays as well, and are also eligible for awards. Vendors range from those selling live orchids to those selling related material and art. There is a photographic display and many other educational exhibits.

In the Port St. Lucie Orchid Society, membership has its rewards!
